With the recent demise of Windows Movie Maker, the need for this kind of tool is more urgent than ever.<\/p>\n<p>Looking around a few weeks ago, I found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shotcut.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Shotcut<\/a>, and I&#8217;ve been really impressed with it. (Shotcut has been around for a while but has recently been completely rewritten.) This tool is cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux) and does most of what you&#8217;d want to do in terms of basic video editing. Once you open the timeline window, the tool will look familiar if you&#8217;ve done video editing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2336\" src=\"https:\/\/www.k12opened.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/shotcut-full-1024x714.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.k12opened.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/shotcut-full-1024x714.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.k12opened.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/shotcut-full-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.k12opened.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/shotcut-full-768x535.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.k12opened.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/shotcut-full.jpg 1902w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here is a quick start guide I&#8217;ve put together for this tool (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.k12opened.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Shotcut-quick-start.docx\">Word<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.k12opened.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Shotcut-quick-start.pdf\">PDF<\/a>). If anyone has suggestions for improving it, let me know.
